My understanding of posse comitatus is that it limits the use of military personnel in domestic situations.

Posse Comitatus prevents use of Title 10 (Active Duty) in a law enforcement role. They can and have been used to support law enforcement. Some of their missions have to be modified to do so. For instance, no 'surveillance, reconnaissance instead. The Corps has supported law enforcement for years, at least 35 when I was doing it. But they don't arrest, they can detain, and defend themselves in a spectacular way.
