Ukraine will first have to rebuild bridges...train lines and depots and find some working locomotives.
In any case anything military moving by road or rail is spotted by the Russians and targeted.
Winter comes...ground is frozen....heavy equipment moves and is detected.
u/FLongis avatar FLongis • 2y ago What would Ukraine do with the Leclerc? What would Ukraine do with any practical number of tanks NATO could send them? And how many should they send? The French operate a little over 200 Leclercs; what's the balance of "sending enough to have an effect" vs "not sending so many that we create problems for ourselves"? Because right now, the number that you'd have to reach to fulfill that first condition is probably well in excess of the number of tanks the French can reasonable part with.
This may be r/TankPorn, but it needs to be remembered that tanks are a pretty minor part of what's going to sway the outcome of this war, and that's just talking in terms of hardware.
Because that would be a "bad gift", and not really useful. The Leclerc, while I seem to remember it performing well in NATO exercises, is a complex and expensive machine, also its maintenance is quite complicated, which is why we don't send any leclerc or tracked vehicle on operations outside of Europe. I know that from two cousins of mine who were in the army in vehicle maintenance groups.
You seem well informed. For me the puzzle is: Why has Russia taken so long and at the cost of so many lives?
It appears that Zelensky will continue the fight until he no longer has soldiers to fight or his people remove him from office. Europe is beginning to look more evil than Vlad the Impaler. Like all war lords, Zelensky will move into eternity leaving a great deal of wealth behind - for someone.
