We bought it all for a few beads and some 'fire' water... They didn't know what the worth of their land was... Because they didn't even know what possessing and owning something even meant... Because they were stone-aged people.
Did we take advantage of their stupidity?? Of course we did... But they did get those beads and some 'fire' water, so it wasn't like we stole their land... We could've given them nothing, kept the beads and the 'fire' water and taken the land outright... But instead... We made an honest trade.
