As you probably know, Labour has a huge majority in Parliament. But in the last UK general election, Labour only got 34% of the vote. That was enough, as rest was split between other parties.
How’s that for the parliamentary system? With 34% of the vote, Labour can and will destroy the country.
And there have been changes to election law in the UK since 2016.
Note the timing.
I’m seriously starting to think the UK will not vote their way out of this.
It’s why I prefer our 2-party system, flaws and all.
Having only 34% but being the ‘majority party’, they get to run the government. Similarly, a party may have the ‘majority’ but becomes 2nd place to other parties that form a ‘coalition’ government.
So even if a right-wing party ‘wins’, the left can create a coalition with other parties and still take control. I believe this is what happened in France recently.
