My father never even knew his father was alive after his mother left his father when he was 5 years old. Jack Bell is way too common of a name around Denver. So he thought a newspaper story of the death of a resort owner named Jack Bell was his father being shot to death and that’s what father recorded in his army records. Jack Bell WAS almost shot to death in a gun battle in the bottom of a silver mine, but that’s another story. They died within a couple years of one another. Truly sad.
