I started watching a fascinating Netflix show titled “Death by Lightning.” It’s about how James Garfield was selected at the Republican convention in Chicago and how his running mate Chester Arthur was selected. Arthur ran the Customs House in NYC which collected something like 70% of all federal revenue in the 1880s.
