Bad Company deserved the Hall more than the Go-Gos or the Cure did. Moreover, Styx had some big hits in the early to mid 70s.
aren’t there a bunch of hip hop ‘artists’ in the rock n roll HOF?
If rock is about being an irreverent outsider…
…why would a band want to be in some zoo-like “hall of fame?”
But he's right about Paul Rodgers. One of the greatest voices in rock.
The rest of styx cant stand deYoung because hes is a jerk. I finally understood what was going on when i watched one of his interviews.
Yeah, but he also wrote Come Sail Away, so let's just pretend Mr. Roboto never happened, OK? Once Tommy Shaw joined the band, it was apparent he was a better song writer, though De Young did some good work on Paradise Theater.
Mr. Roboto is the best song ever.
Dennis has a point: don’t wait until these guys are in the hospital beds, sucking on oxygen before you induct them into the society.
So what? Ted Nugent ain’t even in there. Never been nominated.
Doubt he gives a rat’s ass.
Teapot Tempest?
“I don’t know, wasn’t Dennis De Young the driving force behind the awful “Mr. Roboto”.”
For every Mr. Roboto, there is a Renegade to make up for it.
Like the Nobel Peace Prize, it’s no longer a worthy achievement. Like everything else it’s been politicized and cheapened.
They should be in over many of the recent inductees.
The R&RHOF lost me when they inducted ‘OutKast’... Seriously??? The were essentially a ‘one hit’ wonder... So that makes them worthy?
What a joke... And a sad joke at that.
Styx wasn’t gay enough.
Baby Blue was a good choice to end the TV series Breaking Bad, and Walter White. Straight Up album.
Weren’t they groomed by Paul McCartney (not that there’s anything wrong with that).
DeYoung did do some great work with Styx and as I grow older, I become increasingly appreciative of this solo album, "Desert Moon."
On a cultural/moral note, DeYoung has been married to the same woman since 1970, which IMHO, sets him apart from the vast majority of this professional peers, and his remarks in this article are 100% on point.
Paul Rodgers was one of the greatest vocalists in rock and roll history. DeYoung has a good point.
The R&R Hall of Fame is run by idiots and many of their inductees are anything but R&R.
Emerson Lake & Palmer never made it, and Yes waited until several of the key players were dead. Meanwhile you have the likes of Woody Guthrie and Dolly Parton (Dolly is great - but was never R&R). No Blue Oyster Cult, no B-52s, no Styx, but Springsteen and his band are both in there as separate entries. Yeah, pretty lame.
