Our family Thanksgiving is Saturday the 29th at my niece’s house an hour away. I wanted to do something here on the 27th. I invited my cousin who is finally out of the hospital after 2 months (heart failure complicated by pneumonia). Her daughter, granddaughter & daughter’s fiance were also invited. An elderly cousin & husband were invited plus 2 young adult kids of another cousin whose parents will be on a cruise.
Out of all those folks, only 2 are definitely a ‘yes’. So yesterday, I invited another cousin & her family (4 total) & happily, they are a definite yes so the total is 8 for sure, with potentially 4 more.
I have a 20 lb. turkey & all my casseroles are 9x13 dishes, so even if we end up with 12, there will be plenty of food. I will start cooking Tuesday on some ‘make aheads’ & prep work on the casseroles which will get put together Wednesday. Thursday, I will roast the turkey & heat up all the sides so that will be an ‘easy’ but hectic morning - the feast is at 1:00.
I’m excited! I hope you have a wonderful time at your Thanksgiving meal. :-)
Thank you dear Qiviut! Had a nice chat about next Thursday. Turns out she is making a turkey and traditional sides. They do ham for Christmas. Only 6 of us so far might be 2 more. We decided on broccoli she said they all like it. And I’ll make my apple strudel. Just went to the store and got the frozen phyllo leaves. Sounds like your guests are in for a real feast.

I’ve always liked Hot Curried Fruit as a Thanksgiving side; here’s one version of it, but you can really use any canned fruit you like. Even people who think they don’t like curry seem to like this:

Thanks that sounds good. Dietary wise it needs to be simple, one couple in their 90’s. So I’m going with steamed broccoli with butter salt and pepper and an apple strudel. Sounded perfect for the hostess.
