It's a fine sunny and windy day in God's country we like to call it Texas.
Texas is awash in God's power literally raining down from the heavens and across our vast open plains.

Right now this second Texas aka ERCOT has so much wind and solar power surging into it we are exporting the max amounts the HVDC links will push, and wholesale power price is NEGATIVE $6.42 per megawatt hour at the hub avg and minus $11.79 at the West Texas wind hub. The total grid is 70% wind and solar which have zero fuel costs and O&M near zero dollars per MWh annually. This means they can literally pay people to take the power rather than curtail it.
This keeps demand up and when the price is set by natural gas at peak AND at the long term baseload price wind and solar make back the $$$$$ in spades. Read the associated PDF it has the mathematical break down and proofs.
Texas leads the nation in its energy build out, we lead in AI data centers, Bit Coin mining and industry plus financials are flocking here. While ERCOT was a cluster F when run from afar, those people were kicked out by our legislature and now only locals can run it post winter storm Uri.
This is the outcome of having upwards of 80% of your grid can be wind and solar on a fine sunny and windy day like today in Texas. Power so plentiful it's being given away then paying industry to take it rather than lose demand share.
Flame wind and solar all you want but the mathematical proof and real time market proof is evident for all to see. It's not theory anymore it's fact.

Storage has always been the issue
Sometimes the wind does not blow and the sun does not shine, Just saying.
Have you been under any pressure lately? Just sayin......
I think pumped hydro storage is one of the better options.

That’s like bragging that your car gets 70 miles per gallon coasting down hill.
You still need everything else no matter how good a day wind and solar is having because it can’t be there every day. Especially when you really need it.
Butt my bill doesn’t reflect that does it?
Here in Georgia, the main public utility is Georgia Power.
They often run commercials advising their customers
on how to save money on their electrical usage.
I used to ask myself:
“Why would a producer advise their customers
on how to use less of their product?”
It finally occurred to me that
our public service commission limits their price,
so any excess power they produce can be sold on “the grid”
for more than they are allowed to charge their regular customers.
It might be a better idea to idle some wind turbines and possibly save a bird or two rather than pay to get rid of excess power.
After all even if there is no cost for fuel there is OM cost, taxes, ware and tare on blades and generators.
Having spent 38 years in the electric power industry the idea of producing power when demand for it is not there is totally foreign.
We had dispatchers that were highly trained individual whose job it was to balance the the supply and demand for power.
If there was too much power on the grid they would be calling operators at one of the higher cost power plants to back down their production.
Correct me if I am wrong here, but isn’t a typical data center operation assumed to be nearly constant demand, like a pipeline operation? So it’s pure baseload, in my understanding, and thus generation like solar or wind are not helping with this kind of 24/7/365 kind of demand.
Always on, never off. So yes, I would agree.
In Western Lower Michigan, we have a utility pump storage facility in the form of a huge man-made water reservoir. When electric demand is low, they pump water up into it from lake Michigan, and when extra is needed, it flows down hill to turn generating turbines and electricity to the grid. I’ve read that it could be used as a giant “battery” of stored energy to restart the grid if there were serious outages.
Your utility bill has very little to do with the cost to generate electricity and everything to do with the cost to deliver it.
I’m an investor in a large manufacturing facility that happens to have natural gas wells on the property. We actually bought rights to take delivery to supply gas and run generators. The cost savings was staggering, even paying full cost to the royalty owner and operator. (We pay the same as the pipeline.)

So why did my electricity cost jump from
$0.068/kWh to $0.12/kWh in a year when wind energy is free.
Answer- They shut down the legacy coal and lignite generating
plants and are allowed to recover the cost (+ profit) of the new (taxpayer subsidized) wind farms and the new stand-by gas-fired turbine generators ( also subsidized with taxpayer below market debt.)
Correct! Use it or lose it unless you can store it somehow! Tesla’s expanding industrial battery storage product plant in Houston is a step.
