“”This morning, President Trump announced a $2,000 dividend for all Americans from the tariff surplus. “”

***

While I could definitely use the money... I really don’t think the nation will prosper from any more ‘giveaways’ unless or until our national debt is eliminated. It’s just kicking the ‘economic death’ can down the road for the next administration to deal with and delaying the inevitable economic ‘fall’ that the Democrats have been pushing and shoving us towards for decades now. So thanks, President Trump....

but no thanks.

I’d be happy with making it impossible for the Democrats to cheat and steal another election and for at least a ‘few’ of the leftist perps being frog-marched to jail. I know, I know... still dreaming.

A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!)

Because high income people pay the bills in this country. Screw 'em.

Genius. Republicans have one more omnibus bills coming next year. The tariff bonus should be item one. Trump is brilliant.

Trump is going to pay $2000 to the people who said they would loot stores if they didn’t get their food stamps

Congress seems to have okayed far more than $2000 each for every illegal alien
lawbreaker that has come across this border or remained here illegally.

So what is the big problem for law-abiding, tax paying, hard working honest to goodness American citizens receiving $ that will definitely go for nefarious purposes if the leftist commicrats win the midterms?

As a widow living on one Social Security check and with medical bills I can’t pay I’ll gladly take it. Some of you people sound rich, but not all of us here are doing so well.
I started paying into Social Security when I was 15 years old. I worked hard all my life and I’m struggling. Nobody plans for inflation. Or that we went off the gold standard right after I entered the workplace and now money is practically worthless.

When Vietnam had 95% tariffs on the United States were they taxing' our people? Or their citizens? Or was it a part of international trade deals? What the hell is the Supreme Court thinking?

Are dock fees 'taxes'?

Some want the gov't to use the money to 'pay down the debt.'

Government debt is perpetual - on purpose. The financial system is specifically set up this way.

I live Trump, but he’s got to STOP saying “there’s no inflation”. It makes him seem OUT of touch, and his brand is based on being IN touch.

My preference would be to give it to all taxpayers. That seems simple. I hope he will restrict this to American citizens - even in blue states and very blue cities.

For a time, we will be impacted by reducing the number of cheap illegal immigrant workers. For a time, we will be impacted by higher prices on imports. Why not soften the blows by sharing tariff revenues? People need to see real positive consequences soon.

American employment (then wages) should start to go up when there are fewer (or no) illegal immigrants. Also, in-sourcing production should increase jobs (then wages). However, these positive changes may take time.

Blowing up a bridge is quick and exciting and elicits applause. Building a bridge is slow and laborious and disruptions lead to a lot of grumbling. You need some way to keep people on board as you perform constructive change.

No. First of all it’s taxable, second, it should be used to pay down the debt.

A Record Stock Market Price

Doesn't do me much good when all my money is in DJT stock, and every morning is a deflating experience watching it go down. I keep telling myself that I haven't lost anything until I decide to sell, but at this point I'm going to need to sell everything just to survive.

So somebody who entered the work force a year ago, gets $2000 along with the person who’s worked and paid taxes for 40 years? A 22 year old vs a 55 year old?

I'll believe it when I see the money.

Not that my support of Trump is contingent on it of course.

There are now a few threads ongoing about this topic, about 2000.

Opinions are divided. "Our ENORMOUS DEBT, $37 Trillion" is certainly nothing to sneeze at. If people think my posts are "TL DR", how about 37 trillion dollar bills lined up? See, it could be worse.

Perhaps the purpose is to get Americans in a festive mood for Christmas, into the spirit of giving, and receiving.

More of interest to me (no pun intended but there it is), is that

"2000" is the number appearing on the radar all of a sudden, in the context of 37 trillion in debt, and of giving.

2000 is rather interesting, Biblically and Judaically, especially for where it all began (the giving, of the Torah).

It's not just about this passage:

Joshua 3

1 And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.
2 And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the host;
3 And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.
4 Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore.
5 And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the LORD will do wonders among you.

Or about the swine (pork is not kosher)...

Mark 5

11 Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
12 And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
13 And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand) and were choked in the sea.

But also,

United States of America [אַרְצוֹת הַבְּרִית שֶׁל אָמֵרִיקָה]

= 2000

And the Hebrew abbreviation for the USA/US -- ארה"ב -- is for the first two letters of each word "אַרְצוֹת הַבְּרִית", which would be the same for creating an abbreviation for "Ark of the Covenant", אֲרוֹן הַבּרִית.

But back to the 2,000 as some kind of financial gamble, a big bet...

Hebrew letters also represent 1000x their regular value when written with a little geresh (apostrophe-like mark), such as in year dates.

The letter bet (meaning "house") -- ב -- has the value of 2.

The letter bet with a geresh -- 'ב -- represents 2000.

The Torah literally begins with a big bet, "in the beginning" (some might even catch a Baseball analogy), like this:

בראשית

These United States...

The number 50 is used as the measure that places something at a distance. The Talmud notes the use of a rope measuring 50 cubits for matters such as measuring the 2,000-cubit distance of techum Shabbos, the distance beyond the city one may travel on Shabbos.

Who Knows 50? The distinguished number of transcendence.

Speaking of the distance beyond the city one may travel on Shabbos.:

Acts 1

6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.

When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

Yet there shall be a space between you and it.
