“Too much privacy” for most dependent children!
The truth is when it comes to raising kids and maintaining a functional family, it’s kind of a dictatorship until the children are old enough to start paying bills. Absolute democracy in a household usually equals anarchy, anti-social feral behavior, emotional repression and detachment or the sloth which often leads to substance abuse.
There is a place for household rules: obedience to authority figures, cooperation and courtesy to those living with you, whether you are in the mood to consider other people or not.
These young men were not considering how their actions will deeply effect their families from now on. No doubt the parents are devastated, even though they may be uber liberal, no one expects this, when by all appearances, the 19 y/o were “doing just fine”.
