PHOENIX (KPHO/Gray News) - An Arizona father at the center of a high-profile case regarding the death of his young daughter has died.
The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Christopher Ryan Scholtes, 38, was found dead around 5 a.m. Wednesday in a home near 7th Street and Northern Avenue.
Phoenix police said they are investigating his death as a suicide.
KOLD reports that Scholtes was supposed to turn himself in by the end of the day after missing a court hearing.

Late last month, the 38-year-old had accepted a deal in the case, where he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and child abuse.
Scholtes was accused of leaving his 2-year-old daughter in a hot car outside a Marana home last year.
Marana police and firefighters said they found the child unresponsive in the backseat of the car. She was taken to an area hospital, but did not survive.

I’m glad for the other kids to have a better chance at surviving childhood. He was a train wreck.
He was despicable, but at least (I don’t think…) he didn’t try to blame it on the older children- they were also home most of the time the 2 year old was being baked.
He took a plea deal so there’s no trial to watch.

And I won’t buy a car that doesnt have dog mode to stay running with air on but even with that in phoenix it’s just too iffy
In Nashville in summer with my Rott etc I come out and check car frequently and have a sign on dash
“Guard dog Air Conditioning On”
I try to be where I can watch car etc
It’s still not risk free
Rental cars today often cut off after 30 minutes

According to court documents, the temperature was 109 degrees on that day in July.
The vehicle was parked in direct sunlight with the car seat on the driver’s side of the vehicle, which was a west-facing window. Scholtes knew that he had left his 2-year-old daughter in the vehicle.
Police said Scholtes told officers he took his daughter on some errands and then went home. She was asleep in her car seat, so he left her in the vehicle while he went inside.
