Muhammad Ali Airport.

Hope all passengers survive. I just got home yesterday from a four-day trip to another part of the country. Haven’t flownin years though I’ve been all over the world. Just a tad worried about safety.

Video of the fireball looks un-survivable for the crew.

Oh no! I know a UPS pilot who flies out of Louisville. I hope and pray she’s ok. And before anyone comments about her gender, she was an accomplished KC-135 tanker pilot out of Grissom ARB with over 30 years experience. I worked for her.

“A Shelter-In-Place has been issued for all locations within five miles of the airport and northbound to the Ohio River.”

UPS confirmed Flight 2976 from Louisville to Honolulu with three people on board.

Video shows a plane attempting to take off southbound from the airport with a fire burning off the left wing. Shortly thereafter, it explodes.

From the takeoff video it looks like the left engine was on fire as they were trying to take off.

UPS flight 2976 was operated by a McDonnell Douglas MD-11(F) registered N259UP. The aircraft was 34 years old and first delivered to Thai Airways International in 1991 for passenger service. It was converted to freighter configuration in 2006 and began service with UPS that same year. The aircraft is powered by three General Electric CF6-80C2D1F engines.

Yeah the mayor misspoke...not a huge deal he is not a pilot/expert (pounds vs gallons). Everyone calm down and say a prayer for the crew and those on the ground that were affected. (And remember if you fill your vehicle at the cool part of the day you get more gas for your $$...new fangled gas pumps do have “temp comp”):

Update here:

https://www.wave3.com/2025/11/04/crews-reporting-large-fire-muhammad-ali-airport-after-reported-plane-crash/

Gov. Beshear has confirmed 7 fatalities, 4 apparently on the ground. It looks like the early reports of deadhead passengers were wrong - hopefully so.

The fires are “mostly contained” and shelter-in-place directives have been narrowed. However, all schools in Jefferson County are closed for tomorrow and UPS-Louisville is shut down for tomorrow (a pretty big deal).

More at the link...

“Captain Steve” (Airline Pilot YouTuber) has a good early summary...early indication that the left (No. 1) engine may have been left on the runway...torn fuel & hydraulic lines, major fire and loss of lift on the left. Not enough right rudder or remaining thrust at gross TO weight after “V1” speed to save it...tragic...RIP crew:
