Pinch runner makes sense, if you're playing for the steal to take the force off of second base.

The pitcher had his eye on him the whole at-bat, so having a stealer there forces the pitcher to throw fast balls and now wild pitches or passed balls.

Now, with the walk, having a stealer on second means the pitcher can't see him. Let's see if he can steal third base.

With one out and a runner on third, a base hit wins the game.
