40 BILLION DOLLARS to the Taliban? !!!!
The claim is partially accurate but misleading. It does not represent direct payments to the Taliban. Since August 2021, the U.S. has sent approximately $3 billion in humanitarian aid through UN agencies and NGOs. UN cash flights (up to $40 million per shipment) are deposited into private Afghan banks and converted via the Taliban-controlled central bank, enabling taxation, fees, and diversion. SIGAR confirmed at least $10.9 million directly diverted; broader estimates suggest the Taliban benefit from $40-80 million weekly in total international cash inflows.
