I follow a guy on Facebook who posts about history in the UK and he showed a photo of a “man trap” in a local museum. These traps were apparently utilized on the royal hunting grounds to catch poachers. It looked absolutely brutal. Enormous teeth. The contraption would be opened and laid flat on the ground, with the teeth about 3-4 feet apart, and covered with leaves. If someone stepped on the flat metal piece in the center, it would snap the two pieces to the side together and there was no surviving that, I’m afraid. And usually just for bagging a rabbit to feed a family.
