While appointed for 4 years, it’s my understanding that U.S. Attorneys can be removed by the President at any time and for any reason, as they serve at the pleasure of the President. Maurene Comey doesn’t have a leg to stand on, given all the precedents, but I love seeing them spend money on cases they’re probably going to lose, as long as taxpayers aren’t paying for their lawyers.
When Bill Clintoon first took office he fired ALL of the U.S. Attorneys - about 90 if memory serves. Of course the 'Rats defended him vociferously. They take an oath that they serve at the president's 'pleasure.'
The Deep State has graduated from "at the president's pleasure..." to "We are entitled at our pleasure." All political appointees know the rules when they take the job.
In 2017 Prez Trump ordered the Ukrainian ambassador, Marie Yovanovitch, fired for bad mouthing him to Ukrainian officials. Imagine his surprise when a year later she appeared at his impeachment as the Ukrainian ambassador to criticize him for mishandling Ukraine. The Deep State ignored his order to fire her. Rick Grenell said that she was 100% selfish, ambitious and arrogant.
Even the military had agreed with 'Rat Congress folk to disobey any presidential order that they considered 'illegal'! 🤷
