More than half of all illegal-immigrant households have at least one U.S.-born child through whom they can receive aid. Nearly 2.7 million households have at least one illegal head and one child, and more than 5.3 million U.S.-born children of illegal aliens hold Social Security numbers. The total estimated cost to American taxpayers of providing SNAP benefits to the children of illegal aliens is almost $5.8 billion.
According to the Center for Immigration Studies, data from the 2022 Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP) indicates that 54 percent of households headed by immigrants—including naturalized citizens, legal residents, and illegal immigrants, used one or more major welfare programs.

“Only Illegals should not be eligible.”
I disagree. Nobody should come to the US to go on welfare of any kind.
The spending guidelines need to be fixed.
I support immigrants who come here, work, go to church, support their family....but not those who come here to go on welfare.
“Reassess”
I say “clean slate” & reapply with new standards & prerequisites.
Can’t afford them. Go home.
Second thought...
All the government money plus collected by churches helping get illegals into this country. Let them use that money to show their love and compassion runs deeper than money.
The agrammatical headline gives the very false impression that half of SNAP recipients are non-citizens.
What it actually says is that more than half of non-citizen households (54%) and still more illegal aliens (58%) used food stamps. And even here, the tense is misread: it does not mean that they are currently using SNAP, but that they have used SNAP. This is a rate much higher than native-born Americans (38%), but if it seems odd to you that so many native-born people use foodstamps, only about 13% CURRENTLY use food stamps. This is how many people EVER use food stamps.
Still, the main point — that illegal aliens DO get food stamps because they have CHILDREN who are eligibe — is a very good point to consider. But leading people to believe that SNAP delays affect chiefly non-citizens is simply misinforming people.
Unsustainable.
California has its own social security program for illegals. Just drag grandma across the border and sign her up.
IT IS STILL THE LAW TODAY
But not enforced. Just like a bunch of other immigration laws.
Frankly your clarification does not make it any better.
