Switching permanently to either standard time or daylight saving time would disadvantage either early risers or night owls, according to experts. The current system provides each group with benefits for half the year. Now, the Coalition for Permanent Standard Time is calling for change. The group contends abolishing seasonal time changes and adopting permanent standard time, follows science and prioritizes public health, safety and efficiency.
A survey by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) found that half (50%) of Americans support legislation to eliminate seasonal time changes, while only one-fourth (26%) are opposed. Currently, more than 60% of countries around the world follow standard time all year. Most of the United States shifts between standard time and daylight saving time each year. >[? “The switch to daylight saving time in the spring may seem harmless, but the reality is far more complicated," said Jay Pea, co-chair of the coalition and president of Save Standard Time. "It disrupts our body clocks, affects our sleep quality and increases risk of avoidable health and safety incidents, such as motor vehicle accidents, cardiovascular events, and even workplace errors in the days following the time change. Adopting permanent standard time, on the other hand, offers a better solution for year-round well-being.”

They should just split the difference and fall back 30 minutes and stay there....
Time is an artificial construct invented to keep everything from happening all at once.
I must question what is said about who approves & who doesn’t approve this time change. I’m retired & don’t have to get up at any particular time most days, but it’s a useless nuisance going through this crap twice a year. It solves nothing that I can see.
We don’t do it in AZ and are on the same time as the west coast. I don’t like being behind the east coast by 3 hours over half the year, mostly for the sports broadcasts from back there. Or speaking to relatives who live in the Eastern time zone
Best, quietest part of the day
It’s the same argument every year....get up when you want and go to bed when you want.
I wish daylight savings time would be year round. In the winter its dark in the morning when I go to work, and dark when I get our of work. If we had DST year round at least I could see the sun for 45 mins after I get out of work.
And in the summer if we Standard time, it would sunrise at 4am. Who the heck needs a 4am sunrise.
I hate it when that happens
Well, here we go again. The twice a year whining about the time, the promises to change the law, it dies out in two weeks and nothing is done. Every freakin time change we go through this.
Especially when you’re in a traffic roundabout.
That was a DR. Who episode, right?
The problem comes when dawn is at 4:30 AM and sunrise is at 5 AM and sunset at 7:45 PM here. The reason for Daylight Savings Time is 0600-2050 instead of 0500-1950 in the summer.
When DST was extended in 1987, Augusta National was able to have the Masters finish in primetime for the final hour, which has raised golf ratings. It’s why the USGA pushes for West Coast U. S. Opens so they can finish in primetime where the tournament ends at 11 PM ET.
No idea.
They’ve put roundabouts here in the western MD Wastelands with predictable results so that’s what came to mind.
I’m no Dr. who fan but I assumed if you had roundabouts you were in England. Now I’m depressed but not shocked to learn they’ve brought this liberal abomination to our shores.
You aren’t thinking that Daylight Savings Time actually increases the number of daylight hours in the day, are you?
First saw them just over the line in PA.
Hated em.
Now they’ve dropped down into MD because 4 way stops weren’t enough of a challenge for hicks.
I avoid the few we currently have because it’s tantamount to entering Thunderdome.
Nobody wants to yield and the default mood is whoever has the bigger vehicle gets right of way no matter how wrong of way it is.
FWIW the only Dr Who I watched was the John Pertwee episodes .
The other iterations left much to be desired.
“longer you have daylight in the afternoon”
Please read the post before commenting. “In the afternoon” is the operative phrase.
This means obviously that the sun will rise later in the morning by clock time.
Just get up and go to bed at different times. Farmers have done so for thousands of years.
