Seems to me that doomscrolling has two different definitions. One is that you are just surfing and scrolling. Spending too much time on the internet. The other is that you are spending hours scrolling through feeds of negative (doom) content.

Could be much like smoking, which didn’t start as such in the US but became very much a marker of low class. Yet, it was almost the opposite in, for example, much of Europe.
Similarly, I’d imagine having and conspicuously using a good phone could be a status symbol in some developing countries.
People sit in public alone scrolling their phones so they won’t look alone and unimportant. It doesn’t work.

I used to post on Facebook. Years ago they kicked me off. They said they would reinstate me if I would..."blah! blah! blah! blah!" I didn't bother. I never missed it, never regretted that foolishness. What a waste of time.

If she quit watching the LamestreamMedia inform her of all the things, political and non-political, she should be worried about, she would not be so worried and not “doomscrolling” on her phone so much, no matter what her income level is.
I do not believe “income” is the variable as to who is and is not “doomscrolling” on their cell phone’s so much. I think the variable is whether or not the person’s greatest influencers are Leftists in the media and otherwise.
So add doom scrolling to the list of tells that someone is poor

equals = poor.
