> Hurricane Elena in 1985, IIRC, spent a few days in the Gulf traveling in circles before taking off somewhere. The NWS was issuing landfall warnings for all different areas of the Gulf coast and finally left it up for the entire Gulf Coast cause they said that they had no idea where it was going to make landfall once it decided where to go.

Thank you for mentioning Elena, I'd forgotten all about that one (I was living up in NY so I didn't experience it). Yeah, hurricanes pretty much do whatever they please. We're fortunate that at least some of them agree with the predictions enough that folks can accommodate, evacuate, etc. as needed.

Agree. It should be spoken he would like to do more, but the democrats are hamstringing his ability to act proactively. Some democrat somewhere once remarked that you never waste a crisis.

The best thing to do in hurricane country, is what we do here in nor’easter country.

Just be ready every season.

There’s a HUGE difference in preparedness mindset between NY and NH. In NY, which is no stranger to snow, people wait until the teeth of the storm to stock up and the stores are out of milk, bread, eggs, and bottled water.

The first year my son lived here in NH, we came in on a Tues just as a nor’easter was hitting New England and not only were the stores well stocked and not crowded, after the storm hit and power was out, within hours, all you could hear in every direction all around us was the sound of generators running.

It was 5 days before he had power restored. It was a Thanksgiving to remember. But he had a coal stove and a Weber, so we were warm and had a great Thanksgiving dinner anyways, ala Little House on the Prairie style.

The forecast for this winter is pretty nasty for us, but we’re ready with a generator, fuel oil, propane, a good supply of firewood, and a well stocked freezer, just like every winter.

Anyone who doesn’t prep is a fool.

Sadly, they will probably die . . .

Exercising their free Will...

Colin Bogle, a Mercy Corps advisor based near Kingston, said most families are sheltering in place despite the government ordering evacuations in flood-prone communities.

“Many have never experienced anything like this before, and the uncertainty is frightening,” he said. “There is profound fear of losing homes and livelihoods, of injury, and of displacement.”

Wisdom there.

We're in semi-rural woodsy area, propane tank, and I recently set up an EGO battery power station that can give us lights, fridge, and internet for as long as I have propane to run the genny periodically to charge the batteries round-robin. Probably good for at least a few days. Propane for emergency heat. I buy food in advance of trouble, stuff that lives on shelves not in the fridge.

I've lived in Upstate NY since 1978, and have been through some significant storms and power outages. Like you say, Anyone who doesn’t prep is a fool.

The latest barometric pressure is 901mb and it’s still headed down. Cat5 in the 800’s, man we’re talking some serious damage when that hits land. Yikes.

They are woefully unprepared and exposed
Flooding big issue
90% hilly or mountain

I know alligator pond blue fields and lighthouse and sav la mar as well as any whitey

I feel for them unless you’re fortunate enough to have cinder block dwelling rather than ply board

The fried fish trucks along blue field beach are incredible

Fried reef fish yes the edible ones

Scales on you eat the inside like a bream

Scotch bonnets blow your head off

Tomato and onions in vinegar as condiment

Hardough bread

Fish caught half hour ago

Truly incredibly good

Washed down red stripe or Pepsi or ting or Ginger beer

Memories lol

Looking at the satellite view, it looks like landfall in Jamaica is imminent. It looks like the eye will come ashore in the vicinity of Loana Point and Black River.

The live webcam at Jamaica Historic Flat Bridge shows the river is above the top of the bridge and there is quite a bit of debris flowing down the river.

G’mornin FRiend. You watching this? I’m mesmerized by the stats and visuals. That DRY eye, yikes. Remarkable storm.

From what I gather, many folks there aren’t getting the severity of what’s coming. Just like here, lots of “ride it out” people. It’s so hard to imagine the level of destruction if you’ve not experienced it. God be with them.

Hurricane hunters inside the eye, additional flight about to join the first.

God bless the hurricane hunters for their skill, bravery, and data.

Holy moly.

At about the 9:12:19 timestamp on his YouTube livestream this morning, Max Velocity is showing a satellite loop of the eye and it looks like you can see multiple subvortices within Melissa’s eye...

That made my hair stand on end.

The surface charts are helpful to see where the other highs and lows are. They help determine where it goes. you can stop it and click the chart to step it thru.

Melissa’s eyewall reaches coast of Jamaica as Category 5 hurricane

Hurricane Melissa is now the strongest storm on the planet this year

https://6abc.com/post/hurricane-melissa-is-now-strongest-storm-planet-year/18079781/

“Officials in Jamaica say they are concerned that not enough people are seeking shelter as the catastrophic storm approaches.

More than 130 shelters were open across the island, but by late Monday, fewer than 1,000 people had heeded evacuation orders.”

This is what happens when the powers-that-be run out of funds for deep black programs. One such program is a covert hurricane intensity modification program, injecting sub micron (SM) super absorbent polymers (SAP)s into the eyewall. It’s been going on since hurricane Floyd. I have watched it on the satellite imagery before they pixilated it. Other programs include antigravity propulsion, the manipulation of time and space. Don’t doubt me.
