I’m not in the least surprised. Stereotypes exist for a reason. In the early 60’s I had a job going around and collecting the weekly rent (in cash) from some low rent properties. I got all sorts of excuses, but if they fell more than one week behind, I had signs that said “for rent” and gave a number to call. I’d put a sign in the yard and miraculously they would find the rent. The places were with the exception of electricity and indoor plumbing were anywhere from 50 to over 100 years old with age appropriate features so the rent was low. One place was heated with coal and the kitchen stove was coal fired too. I remember the rent for that place was $12.50 a week. They had to buy their own coal. One bunch had geese that they tried to use as a barrier, but geese don’t like being wacked with a stick so that didn’t work😊
I have rental property in upstate NY and the tenants have more rights than the property owners these days, especially since 2019. If you put a “for rent” sign out on a deadbeat, they would haul you into court for “retaliation” ™
