I saw a video of one of the SNAP moms with bags of fat hanging off her upper arms while she shopped in a sleeveless shirt at a warehouse store. How did she get morbidly obese on the taxpayers many, many dimes? I’m very overweight, too, so I’m not innocent of eating what I shouldn’t, but it’s paid for without government assistance.

I think you've hit on the fundamental point.
When one considers our government and the sheer amount of lobbying that goes on behind the scenes, there has to be a Big Food just like Big Pharma, which wants poor choices by consumers to buy processed and heavily -- pun intended -- sweetened things.
If welfare "assistance" were limited to fresh fruits and vegetables and ZERO sodas and sugared things, the hue and cry from the lobbyists would still be loud and louder.
In addressing how you get people out of poverty, Ben Franklin once said, “there has to be discomfort in poverty.”
In other words if you make being poor too comfortable, they won’t get off their asses and do something!
