Irish Girl Makes Her Mother's Famous Hot Toddy Cocktail (Winter Whiskey Cocktails, Ciara O Doherty - VIDEO)

In todays episode of Cocktails with Ciara, I (a big whiskey fan) am making my mother's much-loved Hot Toddy / Hot Whiskey cocktail! The classic hot whiskey drink is hugely popular in Irish culture and is seen as a bit of a cure-all in many households, for ailments such as a sore throat, cold or even flu symptoms!

This cocktail has been around for far longer than I ever expected, with its roots dating all the way back to the 16th century in India. Much like the Old fashioned, a Hot Toddy is a cocktail that varies greatly from person to person, with many different twists on this classic recipe.

My mom didn’t make us Hot Toddies, I always knew we were missing out.

We’re Irish Extraction and my Mom always made a hot toddy for us if we were really sick with a cough.

First she put the mentholatum on our chest then the hot flannel and finally came the toddy in a tea cup. It was whiskey, English breakfast tea, A slice of lemon and honey. It worked like a charm. I think she got the recipe from my grandmother.

“>>>hot whiskey drink is hugely popular in Irish culture and is seen as a bit of a cure-all in many households, for ailments such as a sore throat, cold or even flu symptoms!” When I was a wee lad, dad used to give me a teaspoon of sugar with several drops of whiskey in the sugar.

Her mom says to use 60 milliliters and she uses 45 of mills. of Jamison whisky. I would guess she doesn’t want too stuff of a Toddy. Also she uses a tsp of honey; yet her mom says to use only 1/2 tsp of honey.

I rarely get sick but when I do I make a highly spiced soup, heat it up good and hot, eat it, take a HOT shower and go to bed.

For some reason all that heat makes me feel way better the next day.
