If they weren’t controversial, what was the problem with sharing his opinions?

Do you really think that his comments on Indian-Americans and Chinese were acceptable?

(By the way, he did NOT say that Indians and Chinese could not always be trusted. He said that they could NEVER be trusted.)

I think it would have been better to say:

There is nothing even remotely incorrect about his opinions, only that he made the mistake of saying them.

Unfortunately the leftists have made telling the truth controversial.
