After seeing a Dragnet rerun last year of an abandoned baby in a regular trash can (1969, pre-dumpster era) I searched and found MANY dumpster and other cases around the US, with more dating back years.
Tonight, Google said “several” cases in September, 2025.
So depressing. Some of the babies lived, so that’s good, but we have a system of all fire stations accepting infants without questions and without charges.
what scares me is what became of the babies who were put into dumpsters and never found before trash pick up.
Back in the 19th century there were many abandoned babies. Some people had little to eat and would abandon their babies at churches and convents. The Foundling Hospital was founded by the Sisters of Charity in NYC to save them.
