Our Achilles heel is internal rot.

Or our fellow countrymen. Lincoln's Lyceum Address

At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it?-- Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never!--All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years.

At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.

Lincoln’s words seem prophetic, but I think he may have been alluding to Democrats. Authors and finishers, then and now.

And our enemies have known this for a very long time just as anyone of us who thinks and remembers knows it.

The problem we face is not our politicians, they are just the manifestation of our disease, the problem is our voters. Our ignorant, dependent, lazy, hopeless conditioned voters. It has taken more than 60 years to create them but the job is mostly done. It would take longer to redirect them and it is a longer we do not have.

Whatever revisionist history says about what LBJ said about tying up the black vote upon signing the Civil Rights Act is not the real problem now. It is all the rest and the misinformation and dumbing down of Americans that has taken place since. Teddy Kennedy in 1965 when he opened the flood gates of immigration and then the asylum policies probably started a bigger problem than LBJ did.
