Senior Dem Senate Source Says Chuck Schumer Seriously Considering Retirement
Townhall ^

Posted on 10/17/2025 10:56:07 AM PDT by DIRTYSECRET

Townhall has been hearing whispers that the longtime New York Senator could be retiring from public life for numerous reasons, not least being that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) could make good on her move to primary him. Now, AOC venturing outside the state could be an early move to consolidate her national constituency for a 2028 presidential run, which she could do, but she has options. And this seat is gettable for her: Schumer is not well-liked among Democratic voters, and his fundraising has been abysmal.

The story looks fake.

Here’s the problem. Schumer folded in January to get the current CR passed. He was told At That Time he will be primaried if it does it again.

Were he to bend the knee and fold again to push this current CR across the 60 vote line, it only lasts into November. The upheaval and rage would then unfold and could force him to outright retire, or to relinquish his Minority Leader position.

Point being this talk of retirement is all about getting 60 votes to end the shutdown. “Why not bend the knee, Chuck? You have nothing to lose?”

But come November he might have lost that Minority Leader position to challenges. It would be pointless.

If he’s going to retire it won’t be announced until next year, after he has a designated successor. And it would be long past CR expiration.

There is no shutdown solution in this.

I wish he'd get on some exercise equipment like Harry Reid did.

I'm thinking there may be another reason he doesn't want to retire.

Arnold Schwartsnegger also had a Cleaning Lady at one time.
Not sure if she was known for prancing around in the buff as she dusted the China.

“Based on data for the 119th Congress, which began in January 2025, the average age of a U.S. senator is 64 years. This makes the 119th Senate the oldest on record.”

— Google AI response

That put Schmuck a huge 10 years above the average. Not quite a youngster.

Guess who's the most popular person in Washington DC right now with the American people?

It's Donald Trump and people are leaving the democrat party and seeing the light. Comparing Republicans to democrats is like comparing strawberries to cabbages.

AOC can probably manage the ashes.

Geeze, if only the GOP could put up a good candidate for a change.

If he cuts and runs, he's exactly the coward I thought him to be.

Believe me he is and then some.

I don’t think so. This is Trump’s shutdown:

“The republican controlled Senate used the nuclear option today to override the 60 vote rule in order to confirm over 100 Trump nominees, yet continues to claim democrats are causing the shutdown.

“Spoiler alert, the republicans in the Senate can also use the nuclear option to reopen the government just like they literally did today to confirm Trump nominees.”

Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene

You’ve compared, now contrast the difference between one hundred nominees and a trillion dollar budget.

The shutdown will end this coming week after their day of whining about “no kings”. The democrats can’t afford to have their cash cow govt closed for much longer, so they’ll blah blah blah and reopen on a one or two vote margin. It’s all for show anyway.

Would not one think that the No Kings thing gathers and galvanizes their hardest of hardliners — who would guarantee removal of any Dem Senator that bends the knee?
