Not sure if it’s already been mentioned, but I believe our site owner is a Navy vet.

As was my dad - career Navy pilot, 28 years. ♥️

I met, ate, and drank with some Russian sailors in Mauritius in 1968, when we were spying on their Zond 5 splashdown (now unclassified). Not much English, but they were just folks, like us. They all wanted to trade for ballpoint pens, Zippo lighters, American cigarettes, etc., because theirs was junk.

The  Honored Navy Service table is not complete. I'll have to proof read it at least once. Then I'll collect names on this thread and ping everyone to request that they help me proof read this by checking that I got your post in the table, and the text is correct. Please excuse me for silly mistakes and typo's. I'll make the corrections needed. I'm happy to add more names! :D

Nice idea-although I suspect many will be content to lurk...:)

For the USN list, include me:
US Navy 1975-1979, Aviation Machinist Mate 2nd Class

Served in VA-174 Razorbacks (RAG) and VA-46 Clansmen (A-7 Corsair) at Cecil Field.

Did some service on the following, in order of time: USS JFK, USS EISENHOWER, USS LEXINGTON, USS FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT.

Grew up as a military brat in a Navy family, lived in NAVCOMMSTA Cheltenham, Subic Bay, Yokosuka, Japan, Washington DC, Newport, RI.

That’s crazy. I had it easy by comparison. We were never out more than three weeks at a time before we made port calls.

I have heard that deployment cycles are insane over the last couple of decades, and those people get to do port calls in places like Diego Garcia, if that. And they don’t go on liberty the way we used to in foreign ports.

Now, to go on liberty in many countries, you have to go with organized groups, I am told.

Sigh. Different Navy.
