I don’t trust them either — now they all seem to sit at a computer and type in stuff while they barely look at or listen to you. Computer then spits out the newest drug that you need to take, with no discussion of possible side effects, how & when to take it, what you need to avoid while taking it, or any misgivings you may have about jumping right into a new drug regimen.
I wish there was a viable option in between this and the weird “healer” who puts a pyramid over your head and tells you to sip special tea and chant “Ohm”
I’m to the point these days where I don’t trust anyone but close family and Jesus.
So what’s YOUR solution when you start having chest pains? Who you gonna run to?
My solution begins with the recognition that some day I will die. I will be dead much longer than I have been alive and no matter how long I live, my death is just around the corner. Death is inevitable, the only question is what happens next.
In light of this knowledge, I have been reconciled to my Creator. Since I have peace with Him, I no longer worry about extending my life. Instead of spending all my time and fortune trying to claw onto a few more minutes in this mortal coil, I spend this life’s minutes to walk in peace with God and further His kingdom.
I don’t “run” to anyone when I have chest pains because the One I turn to is already here. He knows every fiber of my being and has promised to be with me, even until the end of the world.
If it turns out that I am delusional and all that I believe is wrong, then I die and become worm food. Worm food has no regrets. Nothing will take away the peace and fulfillment that I have achieved by reckoning myself dead already. Nothing will give peace or fulfillment to those who live for this life only.
I learned that the hard way.
A doctor saved 20 minutes of his precious time, hacked through a muscle which he didn’t reattach (but this is not required) as part of a shoulder replacement.
I competed in the Army winter Olympics years ago (not sure they still have those). I’m in my mid/late 50s and had cancer, but I train almost every day. I was an airborne ranger. Physical fitness is important to me. I use my body.
Before the surgery I was explicitly clear about what I wanted and expected (all realistic), and the doctor assured me 100% that “releasing the muscle” will not impact the function of the shoulder in any way. He said you don’t use those muscles and I will not be impacted since the pectoral is attached in 5 locations and he’s just partially severing one.
He was wrong. I now have a bum shoulder that has no strength in certain movements.
Now I’m disfigured. The cut muscle went into the chest and gave me a round breast, and I have a big gash where the muscle is missing compared to the other side.
BUT I can get a spoon to my mouth and I assume that’s what he meant when he said it’ll work just fine. I’m sure the surgery was a success on the books and the doctor of course made his money.
McDonalds health care, you get 3 minute fries.
Can I sue or do anything? Not really. He followed the “standard of care,” what he did is permissable. 43 years of my life dedicated to physical fitness and training wasn’t worth 20 minutes of his A-holes time!
Should you trust a doctor? Hell no.
ONLY if you know the guy and he’s proven himself professional, ethical, and competent, actually listens to you and understands that he is working for you.
This is accurate. I think at one point, a few years back, it was the 1st or 2nd leading cause. The term used is Iatrogenic. Injury or death caused by a medical professional—their treatment or a mistake.
Well, people think that because doctors are in a healing profession that requires them to take an oath. Ethical issues are involved for doctors. Plumbers, not so much.
YOU have to do the research, YOU have to do the reading, blind trust in anyone or anything will get you killed.
You must be an informed lay person because if you are not you may as well lay down dead.
I’ve had similar negative results. In one case, years went by and doctors told me that surgeons don’t do the procedure any more because it didn’t work. Never mind that I was forever harmed. I was a guinea pig. I trust no one.
1.) In the US we basically have everything being regulated and standardized in the background through government. They overwhelmingly define the “standard of care”: NIH/CDC (sets standards in procedures, diagnostics, etc), FDA (medical devices, medications), DEA (narcotics).
We have essentially a socialized / government directed health care system in the background.
2.) But we have a private store front, with private hospitals, insurance, doctors, pharma and medical device manufacturers all wanting to maximize their profits.
They hide behind the government “standard of care” which they can in part influence in order to avoid legal litigation and cut costs such as the insurance companies.

What we end up with?
We get the same sort of health care a German would, or a Frenchman, we don't get anything special.
Only we pay for a generic tonsillectomy on average $7,900 while in Germany it costs $4,000, almost 1/2. Is this really a state of the art procedure where we do anything special to justify the higher costs? No.
We have really expensive socialized health care.
I agree - that’s what people think.
Ethical standards apply to all aspects of life, regardless of profession.
In fact, one could argue that high ethical standards come more easily to those with humility - and that humility comes more easily to those of humble professions than the lofty ones.
An oath means nothing or everything, depending on one’s degree of ethical standards.
To think a doctor is necessarily more altruistic than a plumber because of an oath - is just silly.
But you are right - many people do think that.
Great post! 👍👍
Well, in the case of doctors, they take an oath and are supposed to be bound by it. Hippocratic oath—Do no harm. So, to do otherwise would mean doctors are violating that oath as well as being self-serving and greedy along with being dishonest—morally lacking in many ways. Much worse than a plumber who does you wrong.
If the fact that doctors take an oath makes you trust the entire profession as a whole - good luck to you - you’ll need it.
It is buyer beware in all transactions - do your homework.
There are good people and bad people in any profession - competent and incompetent - altruistic and selfish.
You need to judge skill and character by the individual - it makes no sense to rely on the reputation of an entire profession - just because they take an oath or earned a degree.
Yes a lot of people do just that - but not the smart ones.
BTTT
I never said I trusted or did not trust doctors or anyone for that matter. I was talking about how their system is set up and how the doctors/medical professionals are held to a higher standard because of the oaths they take.
Oh, you don’t need to lecture me like I just fell off a potato truck, I am quite sure that I have more knowledge and experience in this area than you.
This is accurate. I think at one point, a few years back, it was the 1st or 2nd leading cause. The term used is Iatrogenic. Injury or death caused by a medical professional—their treatment or a mistake.

Vivenne, thanks so much for your response to my post. You’ve given me some useful information here.
“I am quite sure that I have more knowledge and experience in this area than you.“
Sorry, I didn’t realize..
Is your God going to prevent your heart attack or stroke when He has gifted humanity with the ability to prevent them? Why are you denying Him with the gifts He has given us?
Just curious, when was the last time you saw a physician and what was the reason?
And based on you hatred of them, why did seek them out?
"Odd one out" on a website filled with a hand full of conspiracy theorists and idiots like you who malign the medical field due to unfounded biases?
You idiots here on FR are not indicative of the general population of this country who are thankful for the medical care they have access to and the specialists that are able to keep them alive.......
Nice try tho bro.....
