Trump going on the show would kill it. Conservatives would watch for one night just for the entertainment value. Liberals would be so disgusted that Kimmel ‘humanized” Trump that they’d never forgive him and would stop watching.

Yup. If anyone doesn’t get what 45 is saying, what ruined the Tonight Show was Trump appeared with Jimmy Fallon, who had been up until then the most harmless, entertainment-focused of the Late Night shows. Fallon “humanized” Trump, and earned the hatred and scorn of Hollywood, after which he tried to act as bitter, humorless and hate-filled as Kimmel and Colbert, but the Left never forgave him and right now, he has the audience of a subway busker.
