For me, a safe car is always the first priority, and a reliable car is second. I don’t care what it looks like or who makes it. I do care about the price tag.
If a car breaks down a lot, or needs a lot of attention, it’s not the right car for me.
My only experience with an EV is a friend who owns one. She was constantly worried about taking the shortest route, and not getting stuck in traffic. In other words, getting home before she had no power to her car.
I don’t think I can live like that.
I’ve heard some of the older, non Tesla, EVs had extremely short ranges. And having a plug in outlet at home is a big deal. If I couldn’t charge at home I wouldn’t have gotten it. So those issues that your friend had don’t exist for me. I can drive longer on a single charge than my bladder can wait.
That is exactly why, on our trip to Nashville 2 years ago when the rental company said “Great, the mystery car you rented is an electric vehicle!” I told them it wasn’t and I would pay a bit extra because we weren’t going to deal with that crap on vacation. I got the mystery rental because it was cheaper, we don’t care what we would get, never expected an EV.
