Mind blowing story....
November, 1977, went to see Rush at the MidHudson Civic center in Poughkeepsie, NY- a 5000 seat arena during the “Farewell to Kings” tour...i was a freshman in HS...
On the trip up the guys in the car are talking about the warm-up band...one guy said, “I heard its some mellow band from Australia”...
The band takes the stage- AC/DC with Bon Scott complete with Bon Scott running through the audience with Angus Young on his shoulders during the encore...
Everybody was like “HOLY SHEET!! WHAT WAS THAT??!!!”
It was as though someone took an iron skillet and banged you on the back of the head...Rush was really good but everybody was exhausted after AC/DC!!!
I didn’t see AC/DC until, hmm, this century. Everyone was still alive and on the stage. I got a ticket, at the grocery store, then went over to pharmacy and got a box of earplugs.
I wore them. Glad I did. The show was completely enjoyable, heard everything, including my ribs rattling. Brian’s voice was and still is long gone, but boy, he can work a crowd.
Prior to that, the loudest show I ever went to was early 90s, the Black Crowes, and the ringing in my ears from that one went away a year ago Christmas.
Nice! What a great memory.
