Trump shields immigration and trade from shutdown fallout
Politico ^

As Washington enters a government shutdown, the Trump administration has erected safeguards to ensure President Donald Trump’s most hardline priorities continue unscathed.

Agencies central to Trump’s agenda are shielding certain programs by declaring the federal employees who work on them essential or sheltering them under already approved funding streams — designations that will allow them to keep running through the funding lapse.

“Remember Rahm Emanuel’s great quote: ‘You should never waste a crisis,’” said former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. “Rahm Emanuel should be proud of the Trump team because they’re prepared to say, ‘Every day this is shut, we will find ways to pay for everything we want. We’ll find ways to eliminate everything you want. And we’ll do it legally.’”

Trump knows the Dems will own this, and he’s done a good job keeping his agenda moving forward. Pressure will build on the Dems quickly, and he knows that.

An amusing X op/ed ----

"Congratulations America, the federal government is shut down.

"That was easy.

"The key is how long: 61 days is the magic number where Trump can permanently fire 740,000 federal workers. Saving hundreds of billions of dollars."

What did Rahm Emanuel say? Don’t let a good crisis go to waste? I have full confidence that Trump will use the shutdown to clear out a bunch of Woke, useless bureaucrats while protecting important programs like ICE and trade.

The Rat judges will start issuing TRO's and injunctions very shortly. It will take a few months for SCOTUS to resolve the cases.

Rat judges have issues a lot TRO's and injunctions which have been overturned on appeal. "Can't" doesn't mean "won't".

You can't issue TRO’s to make congress pass a spending bill or force a congress to vote a certain way.

No, but the Rat judges may well intrude into how Trump determines what government services are essential, how he funds that, and what federal workers get reduction in force (RIF) notices that their jobs are now gone. I expect they will do such things.

Sacked federal employees may sue, but end up losing.
SCOTUS has only last week reiterated the president’s power to fire federal employees after one woman sued after getting fired.

Looks like the Trump administration are enjoying themselves.

This is about those protected by federal civil service laws that they can't be fired for political reasons. A quick review of the applicable law is that federal employees can't be terminated by RIF until after the shutdown lasts 30 days. Trump can try terminating them before that, but expect the courts to intervene with TRO's and injunctions.

30 days is fine, as long as we get rid of some crazy Biden DEI federal employees.
FBI had a good start a few days back, kicking out 20 DEI kneelers for BLM.

Yup.
Plus they need plenty of money for the mid terms, since Republicans are far outraising Democrats in campaign funds right now.
