The band plays Osmonds songs?
If you don’t follow golf, you probably don’t know that a huge stink was raised by fan chants using the F-word against European players, in particular Rory McIlroy, at the recent Ryder Cup matches in Bethpage on Long Island NY.
This has set off a discussion about where rowdy fans cross the line and what can be done about it. So I would imagine this latest incident is perhaps partly a poorly thought out ironic copycat effort, possibly some taking part thought it was humorous. The golf event was fabulous golf surrounded by the worst fan behavior seen in many years, especially in golf where the players are a lot closer to the spectators than football or hockey players might be (and a lot less used to hearing profane insults). Not only was the F-word being freely tossed around, various insults were being hurled at the players, and sometimes when they were engaged in making shots. As anyone who has played golf will know, banter is one thing but making any sort of noise during a shot is liable to put a player off.
Anyway that’s the back story, I would imagine these college football fans had seen the Ryder Cup coverage on TV.
If only it were that innocent. No, the Stanford Band does things like mocking the LDS “Sealing Ceremony” by having it performed by two lesbians.
