A $17 coin would be pretty cool. Of course, democrats would be eternally confused when trying to give change (as if they’re not already).

That reminds me of the old tale of the city slicker driving through Appalachia; he says to his friend as he pumps $1 worth of gas, 'Watch this!' He hands the country boy a $15 bill. Country guy smoking a corn cob pipe opens the register and puts the $15 bill in the drawer - and calmly hands city slicker 2 $7 bills in change! 😃

THAT would be a great idea (along with additional denominations) because coinage is directly emitted via Treasury/Mints.

Recall also, as I’ve previously noted, based on numbers minted, duration, population and prior ratios, we HAVE sufficient monetary metal (Gold, Silver, Platinum, copper and nickel) produced and in the hands of Americans to return to a backed lawful money standard.

Rather than ditch the penny (or the nickel eventually) they should manufacture “overstrike” dies and over time restrike pennys as dimes and the nickel as $0.25 or $0.50. That would realign their content value during a period of sorting out the overall coinage and backing mess.
