Science/Medicine
I was able to buy a Whirlpool top-loading “energy star” washer recently. Made in USA - yeah! I guess the front load ones are falling out of favor. It isn’t top of the line (even though it’s priced like it is, as are all appliances) but it’s got a “high water” setting. Which is basically about 1/4 full instead of 1/8 full on the normal setting.
I remember when those babies used to fill up to the top and the cloths would actually swim around in the full bowl of water. Now THAT got your cloths clean. Still, this washer seems to do a better job than the 17 year old Maytag I had at my previous house (which I bought at the Sears scratch-and-dent store back in 2008). I decided that leaving that washer and dryer was in my best interest, even though they were higher-end models. Often, moving a 17 year old washer puts undue stress on things and they start leaking shortly afterward. Nobody wants a leaky washer.
Dryers are pretty simple machines, but they’ve managed to make them less reliable somehow (though, knock on wood, the Maytag washer and dryer I had at the previous house never needed any repair or maintenance). I think the electronic controls are the weakest link. They stop making parts for them after a few years, and then it’s unserviceable, unlike the older mechanical dials and buttons of yesteryear.
My new washer, I have no idea where it is in the cycle - the old style knob, you could tell by looking at the knob. If it pointed to rinse, then it would rinse. You could start it at any point in the cycle the you wanted, so if you just wanted to rinse and spin, it would fill up with water, swish it around, drain, and spin. This new one, it has a “rinse and spin” cycle that does more than rinse and spin.
Coffee is making me talk too much this morning, but I could go on (and on and on and on)
Impressive! You’re very well-travelled!
good one! :)
Sobieski is a really smart guy no question.
Yes, same with me. I bought a used refrig, a Whirlpool, and it lasted about the same, 23 years... USED! Then I had to replace it - sigh One feels the doom at such a time. I understand Nancy Pelosi has, like, a $20,000 refrig to keep ice cream; yikes!
All my appliances I bought used! If there is planned obsolescence then I can at least pay less up front. Actually it has worked out great! ❗

OK, you win the thread.
I can think of more fitting actions than arrest.

wonder what he’d have to say about today’s US politics?

When I see these people I am torn between pitying them or being frightened of them because of their mental state.
Saving that, thanks!
“ Am I nuts or is Alberta still working on a possible secession from Canada? “
I can answer that. I live in Calgary. There’s a definite movement for separation here, but the usual suspects are fighting it. There’s even a former provincial politician who’s behind a petition to prevent the separation issue from even being voted on. Nice bit of democracy, that is, but this is Canada.
They asked my wife and I to sign it the other day and I informed them I’d rather sign the pro separation one (there isn’t one to my knowledge, at least not yet).
Make Alberta Great Again! 51st state! Let’s do it!
