Even if I conceded the point, and I do not in the case of Emily Bronte, movie and TV versions of truly great literature should keep the subtleties intact as much as possible, or change the name to something else.
The sexed up "Great Expectations" and the change of the ending of "The Scarlet Letter" are a betrayal of the author, with ghouls feeding off of a great legacy.
