Radio Shack was founded in 1921, just a bit before WWII. I believe the name originated from within the ham radio community, where many hams actually DID have shacks for their equipment (wives, in many cases, demanded that).
If you ever heard a spark transmitter in operation, you would understand.

I was going by sources that named WWII, not prior to it, as the time "radio shack" came into conversations. I can't be responsible for all sources.
