Teaching is hard work. Insisting that students actually know the subject is even harder. Having standards and being the 'bad guy' teacher who enforces them is still harder. It;s a lot easier to just pass them on to the next grade, which is what is happening.

Children in an environment of ignorance and laziness are almost impossible to teach.

Our public education system is in total collapse because of the above. Those who want to be educated are going to have to strive, outside the system, to learn.

The affluent will continue with private schools for their children, the others are going to have to find a similar way (scholarships to private schools, vouchers, or home schooling) or join the upcoming massive underclass.
