I remember hearing many years ago that Mexico has quite a few laws on the books about to keep foreigners (particularly Americans) from owning property and businesses, and more recently to stop gentrification.

Basically, gringo money is fine as tourism, but not for displacing their property ownership. Which honestly, you can’t really blame them for that.

A big story is how Mexicans, including illegals, those with visas and naturalized US Citizens are retiring to Mexico. Assisting is is that many naturalized citizens have dual citizenship.

When Fox (Club For Growth) ran for president he won because he had the vote of Mexicans in the US. When Calderon (Catholic social conservative) won because he had the vote of Mexicans in the US. Unfortunately Calderon waged a very bloody war against the drug cartels without support from the US. The result was that Mexico subsequently flipped the other direction.
