It was an unmodified Mauser 98. They are 44.5 inches long with approximately 24 inch barrels. Look for the pics.

People are assuming that ‘breaking down’ a rifle consists of removing the barrel from the receiver which can be difficult.
But ‘breaking down’ a rifle can also consist of removing the wooden stock from the receiver/barrel which usually only required removing a few screws.
