One of the more interesting phenomena is that Communist governments never came to power without considerable arms and financial assistance from an already Communist power. The exceptions are Russia itself, maybe Cuba and Ethiopia.

Fascism always includes elements of corporatism, meaning the organization of society into legally defined blocks such as labor, business, trade unions, farmers, etc. It's not just that someone happens to be a farmer, but a farmer has legally distinct rights and obligations such as the right to a subsidized minimum price and the obligation to produce.

Existing social groups are in effect frozen in place with benefits or costs re-balanced by the state. Working conditions and trade union memberships along with pensions, vacation and other benefits dramatically increased under Fascist governments in Italy, Germany, Portugal and Spain. At the same time, capital was guaranteed a market, protection from competition and continued social status.

Because it uses and transforms an existing social structure, fascism is easier to emplace than Communism. Changes are gradually introduced as "reforms" and "regulation." However, all such reform is also bent towards the maintenance of power by the single party managing the state.

This why the New Left in the US actually resembles a fascist movement more than Bolshevism: it has realized that gradual regulatory and tax changes can over time give it totalitarian control over the means of production, and it is free to replace nationalism with anti-nationalism (the Bolshevik goal) by describing it as anti-racism, anti-sexism, etc.

The end result is what we almost got under Obama and Biden: a one-party corporate fascist state where big businesses are bought-off but highly regulated and subsidized as long as they toe the party line and support the Democratic Party. Genuine elections are replaced by massive media propaganda influence and outright ballot fraud, guaranteeing perpetual control by Democrats.
