I don't know why, but this hit me hard. I've enjoyed Maru's antics for over a decade. Probably because I'd enjoy his videos with my mom, who died 2 years ago.

Rest in peace, Maru.

Was he the one who played the piano?

No, he was known for his rabid affection for boxes of all sizes, most notably open-ended bear boxes. He'd squeeze into them and wear them like a girdle.

Japanese love their cats.

They have Cat Island there.

It sounds like the owner did everything to save him; at least he had 18 years behind him before he crossed the rainbow bridge.

Cats make your life better. They amuse you with their antics. They comfort you when you’re sad. They warm you when you sleep. They keep you going knowing they need you. Every cat that passes through our lives goes away mourned and remembered and cherished.

Having a cat saves me from having to buy an alarm clock.

Makes me cry. I knew he would not live a lot longer but it always hits hard. These precious little souls give so much and ask so little. In that way they are better than us and all of our complications, vice, strife, anger and evil.

Maru made me laugh out loud so many times. Him pushing the cart was probably my favorite thing he did. He was so smug in doing it knowing he was special.

Many people think it is silly to wonder if these little creatures go to Heaven. Some say yes, because they are part of The Creation. I choose to believe it is so. Heaven without them is not a better place to me. A place to sit by the pond and enjoy the sunset without my little gang of companions is not better for me.

Yes, Rest in Peace, Maru.

Just read the story of Maru’s passing. It is too much like the passing of my little Willow this Spring. Willow died of hemoplasmosis, it kills red blood cells. She was so sick. She fought like a tiger to stay. I kept by her side through it all. She was hurting and struggling. My sister told me that silly as it sounds I should tell he it is OK to go. I did and she died slowly at first then I told God that if he was going to take her to do it quickly and to not make her suffer. In seconds she was gone.

She is in a cherry wood coffin in her favorite sun spot. She was only three years old.

I have many more to see pass if I live long enough and many to leave wondering who will take care of them if I don’t. I don’t want to go through their passings but I will, I owe it to them for all the pleasure they give me.

We have lost 3 over the years, our latest just this past July. Coco was the cutest orange tabby, full of antics, and such a dear sweetie. We don’t know what her affliction was, we took her to the vet a number of times, but it would’ve cost us money we don’t have to have tests done. We continued to watch her suffer and lose weight. We said goodbye to her on July 25, and were with her when she went to sleep for the last time. We still haven’t gotten over it.

RIP Coco, our sweet kitty.

Yes, the cart was always a treat to watch. He did it with such determination, even when he hit the far wall. :)

My other favorites was his interactions with the Macaques through the glass window. They never fazed him.

Chill out. That's just an expression of sentiment.

Heaven is for US, for redeemed men. If a beloved pet would make it possibly more perfect, they'll be supplied.

So do the Turkish. They have cats everywhere held in honor.

I can’t imagine how devastated Mugumogu is right now. Maru was her precious baby. Being Japanese, I like to think there is a stern stoicism over the death of a cherished loved one that she is exhibiting. I know I would be a train wreck for at least a few days.

And what will Hana do now? Maru was her everything.
