‘She loved America’: Ukrainian refugee who was stabbed on train will be buried in US, family says

More personal details are being shared about the woman who was stabbed to death in an apparently random attack on a light-rail train in Charlotte, North Carolina.

While living in the Charlotte area, Ferguson said the college graduate worked at a pizza restaurant, took care of animals, helped at a senior citizen center and rode that same train often.

“The first day she was allowed to work, she got a work permit here, she got a job the very first day,” Ferguson described.

According to Barnacle, the Ukrainian embassy offered to help bring Zarutska’s body back to the European country, but her mother and uncle said she will remain in the U.S.

“She loved America. We’re going to bury her here,” the family told Barnacle
