“One man queuing told ITV News West Country: “I was up at about half past five this morning to get an NHS dentist. I’ve been trying for the last two years to get an NHS dentist in Bristol, and it’s been impossible.””
Reminds me of the Soviets lining up to buy meat.
One thing for sure, the UK’s ‘boat people’ will always FIRST IN LINE for medical treatment, no doubt.
There's probably no need to "educate" you, but for the general FR audience, I say: There was a whole culture (specialized vocabulary, elaborate rules of conduct, etc.) in the unlamented Eastern Bloc around "waiting in lines."
One of the most telling remarks my wife has shared with me is that, when a Soviet citizen was walking randomly along the sidewalk in Moscow, and suddenly happened upon a long waiting line, he would automatically line up with the rest of them - even though he might have no idea what for. And even if it turned out, hours later, that the line was for, say, feminine hygiene products - which, as a bachelor, he didn't need - he'd nonetheless purchase half a dozen cartons of the stuff, to barter with later on.
