A new survey suggests many Baby Boomers are struggling with digital overuse, with nearly half spending more than three hours a day on their smartphones and a significant number experiencing anxiety when disconnected.

The poll, conducted by AddictionResource.net, surveyed 2,000 adults ages 59 to 77 about their digital habits and found signs of emotional dependence, compulsive behavior and difficulty reducing screen time.

Experts say adults who spend more than six hours a day on screens are at increased risk of depression. While screen addiction is not defined by time alone, experts recommend recreational use stay below two hours daily.

I was going to call BS on this story until I realized I spend 6 hours a day on FR.

I embrace my FR demons.

“I was going to call BS on this story until I realized I spend 6 hours a day on FR.”

I spend a little more but I’m retired and FR is entertainment. I hate most TV shows.

I More or less provide a poor extended family with a home. I have an extra one.
Her grandson was addicted to a Tablet. The power cord failed and although I can fix it, I claimed ignorance( pissed my wife off!) just to see if I could interest him in other pursuits.
MY MISTAKE! Kid is too stupid to bother with.
I’ve decided to just help out where I can and let him be.
His parents can deal with him, when he has no tablet.
Maybe they will be parents and not expect a tablet to
do their job!
I’m an old retiree in very rural Hawaii so the internet is my connection to the world. I don’t think a young immature kid should be “on-line that much as they have to grow and deal with providing for their future. A future that a Computer tablet game will not provide guidance to.

Good on ya. .Facebook sucks, big time. So does most of the rest of the social media stuff. I do enjoy Reddit, though. I mean, there’s something for everyone!

I too am much happier reading books. Fell in love with the Little House books in my childhood and have loved reading ever since.
