‘Overpaid’ Central Park Conservancy executives rake in green with ‘outrageous’ salaries: ‘Give me a break’

There’s a lot of mint in Strawberry Fields!

Top executives at the Central Park Conservancy — a tax-exempt group that famously manages and maintains the world-renowned park under a contractual agreement with the city — are raking in mounds of green, records show.

President and CEO Elizabeth Smith’s total compensation was $933,592, including her hefty bonus incentive — and 12 other officers pulled in at least $300,000 apiece, according to the group’s 2024 IRS filing for the 2023 calendar year.

The year before, Smith’s salary and benefits package came to a cool $1.178 million, while 15 others scored more than $300,000.

Smith earned $740,000 in 2021, a 22% increase from her $605,000 in salary and compensation in 2020.

By comparison, Mayor Eric Adams is paid $258,750 to oversee the entire city, and President Trump earns $400,000 to run the country.

The conservancy’s chief financial officer, Stephen Spinelli, also pulled in $654,429 — a 24% increase over four years.

The compensation for Roger Mosier, chief of park operations, topped $500,000, the 2024 IRS report revealed.

These salaries for a not-for-profit, tax-exempt “charitable” group are beyond the pale, critics said.

“Those salaries and benefits are outrageous. Where do you draw the line?” said City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino (R-Queens), a member of the council’s Parks Committee.

“Give me a break.”

I want these people pulling weeds at minimum wage for the rest of their unnatural lives.

Non-profits have become a complete joke.

Not just in the Big Apple.

But out in the middle of the cornfields as well.

Out here in the boondocks local broadcast news is taking many hours of “content”.

They don’t want to get their lazy arses out of the studio and cover real news, so they interview a bunch folk “pretending” to be do-gooders who head non-profits which likely spend eighty per cent of their intake on administrative costs.

They likely make six figure salaries which is no than make work and welfare for college grads who couldn’t get a real job nor be able to do a real job if they ever got one.

I live in a posh suburb of Chicago. Around me are many multi-million dollar homes. The schools are highly ranked. The people who own the big homes used to be upper level executives, lawyers, doctors and business owners. Now most of the new home owners work for NGOs and other non-profits. They make huge salaries as do-gooders who go to a few meetings a month. Even the lawyers work for the non-profits.

Their goal is to raise funds, pay themselves and create an endowment to keep the grift growing. They will have balls or other events a few times a year for donors and themselves. And of course politicians who can influence government grants are always at the events. Non-profits are a scam. Nobody should give to any non-profit unless its very local and you can see where the money goes.

First the 9/11 Museum board, then this. Half of the New York economy is a massive grift and welfare for the nomenklatura.

Unfortunately for them, Trump sees through this. When his people bring this to him, he understands very quickly what’s going on

In my posh NY suburb growing up, there were execs, and lawyers. We kids knew everything and what the guy was doing to make money. Sometimes it was unclear. Their kids were reticent

They were obvious. Nice people, baby sat for them etc. But what the guy did wasn’t discussed

That’s what this sounds like. I moved away, I don’t know who lives there now. My sister says the guys living in those hoods are not doing what our fathers were doing. The real estate rate is increased thirty thousand. The taxes are $3 k per month

If someone had told us kids that the guys were working for the park service we’d act the way we did when we were told someone was running some bogus front business

No sale. We would not aspire to that career. To much BS and questionable activity

So, people are looking the other way a whole lot more than they were when we were kids.

No more.

It seems like non-profit executives are very well compensated. It almost seems like a scam.

I think it is great that a private charitable non-profit manages Central Park in New York City, and not city hall - and I used to donate to it - but the salary structure is outrageous.

Only if enough little donors and some very big ones make some really big waves, will the Conservancy’s Board of Directors make reforms.

Adams could help his chances at re-election if he made it a public issue.
