I have a booklet about the history of my local area, Wayne county Michigan. Back in the late 1700's someone noted how a team of horses pulling a sleigh, would pass right over a wooden fence not even knowing it was there. Besides the depth of the snow, you've got to imagine how packed down it must have been for hoofs not to sink through.

When I was a kid I noticed how every time the snow melted to the point you could see the grass, another snow would come and cover it over again.

We're coming out of a little ice age, and though it's fun to reminiscence about past winters, I'll happily not shovel snow if I can.

We have moved in the last year to an area that has a much higher average annual snowfall than the old place. We also now have a very long driveway. After an 8” snow last year & no 4-wheel drive vehicles, I had to hire someone to plow the driveway and I am sure I will need his services again! The sidewalk is much shorter & only one small step, no back deck so actual areas I have to manually shovel have been reduced (yay!).
