I bought an Enfield when I moved out here 30 years ago and a case of 1000 rounds ($108) of ammo. All bandoliered from its 1918 manufacture date. Shot about 400 rounds of it to this point, never a misfire (but be ready to clean after shooting!).

Probably old Cordite. In any case make sure that you scrub out the bore and action either with hot soapy water or Hoppe’s No. 9 to remove any corrosive priming residue.
